MLK FOOD PARK PHASE 4!

PARK DETAILS

Welcome back to the MLK Food Park! We're now in PHASE 4 of the food park and we can't wait to see you and the South Dallas community! If you've never been to the food park phases or the original pilot here's a little background - the food park was a pilot program ran for 30 days or so near the corner of MLK Jr. Boulevard and Holmes in efforts to advocate for better mobile food vending policy in the City of Dallas. Plus it was a (successful) way of activating a vacant lot in South Dallas that no one (literally, no one) said would be useful, visited or make a difference. This is what DRBTS calls "place creation" or the technical term placemaking.

We were trusted by the South Dallas community to continue this activation space for the community to be used by the community. Places and spaces for safe gathering, business growth, networking and connecting are few in between in South Dallas, more particularly in majority Black + Brown communities. This place is a safe space for US to gather, share space with one another, cultivate businesses, provide valuable resources and curate the beautiful place that is Sunny South Dallas! ☀️

VENDOR PROCESS

Are vendors are hand picked to best serve, enhance and add to this space! It's NOT first come, first serve instead we'll have the vendor form open for certain time then we will select a maximum number of non-food vendors (retail, bakery, clothing, etc.) to be vendors. 

SPOTS ARE LIMITED! And we are very focused on quality > quantity for the community, the culture and the trust of South Dallas to bring in quality folks. If you aren't selected please understand it's not personal we're simply investing in the well-being of this space and what it means which may not be your business at this time. DRBTS loves South Dallas and we're committed to doing 100% right by the streets of this community in whatever way THEY tell us is best.

We will select 6 food vendors (food trucks, trailers and/or temporary set ups) in addition to the retail/non-food vendors. Our food vendor selections have been top tier over the last 3 phases so our goal is to keep bringing those vibes! Food types will vary from vegan food to bbq - it's a little something for everybody!

Once vendors (food and non-food) are selected they will be notified, given instructions on how to pay the vendor fee (food vendors will also have to pay an additional temporary permit fee), details of the event and it's UP from there!! 

Vendor fees are listed below.

🟡 Non-food vendors: $40

🟡 Food vendors: $40 (vendor fee) + $200 (temporary food permit fee) = $240

As the long-term goal of the food park is to be a PERMANENT space in South Dallas we have grown quickly in the last year of activating! In order for us to keep going at this rate and to get even better we have started to find additional ways to fund and support the park. So, as a result we are offering opportunities for sponsorships from organizations, local businesses and individuals looking to support the growth of the food park space!
